Procedure of conducting clinical diagnosis.





Procedure:
(1)   Registration :- general information regarding the patient
Ø  Animal species.
Ø  Identification number or name.
Ø  Breed, sex, age, colour of the coat.
Ø  Type e.g. draught animal.
Ø  Address of the client.
(2)   Anamnesis :- history
                                i.            Anamnesis vitae:- life history
Ø  Condition of the animal before illness.
Ø  Type of management and husbandry practices.
Ø  The plane of nutrition/ animal nutrition.
Ø  Water supply (individual or communal)
Ø  Animal use e.g. draught, beef, diary, dual purpose.
Ø  Previous illness.
                              ii.            Anamnesis morbi :- disease history, consider the following;
Ø  The date an animal was discovered to be sick.
Ø  Under which or what conditions e.g. after vaccination, longer draught or feeding on some pastures.
Ø  The possible cause of illness.
Ø  Clinical signs observed.
Ø  Was there any attempt to treat the animal and what was the response of the drug used?
Ø  Is the condition improving or worsening.
Ø  What are the common infectious diseases in the locality?
Ø  Any common food poisoning.
Ø  Is there any possible animal contact and contact with game animals?
(3)   Habitus: - bodily condition.
Ø  Actual examination of the body systems.
Ø  Examination of body temperature, pulse rate, respiratory rate.
Ø  Examination of the common integument which includes;
o   Observation
o   Inquiring (questioning)
o   Palpation
o   Percussion; - involve strike to listen the internal sound e.g. tympanic sound.
o   Auscultation: - stethoscope is used to listen into internal sound.
o   Biopsy tissue examination.
o   Examine coat, skin, lymph nodes, mucous membranes and other organs.
(4)   Local status: - status localis, location of clinical signs and the tentative diagnosis.
(5)   Prognosis:- fatal/ grave, favorable, 50%/50%
(6)   Recommendations
Ø  Destroy or dispose.
Ø  Treatment course and drug  of choice
Ø  Prophylaxis/disease control.
Ø  Hygienic measure.
Ø  Better husbandry practices.
